The International Student Mobility – Welcome Services, where I am currently the coordinator for Student Records and Transcripts of Records for International exchange students, gives advice about exchange programs and takes care of international guest and guest researchers. y works lies especially in managing exchange students’ Student Records of direct exchange and Erasmus+ students.
Direct Exchange
Freie Universität Berlin maintains several strong partnerships with many universities and research institutions worldwide. Originally most of these partnerships were with leading North American and Western European universities. But more recently, they have been established with universities in Asia, Australia, Eastern Europe, and Africa. Currently there are over 100 such partnerships.
Erasmus+
Beyond the chance to advance their studies, students will be meeting new friends and challenges, enhancing your language skills, and getting to know a new culture. Many describe this experience as life changing (I can only agree), providing new insights and preparing students for the demands of the global employment market.
Erasmus+ is one of the most successful trans-European exchange programs. To date, it has assisted more than two million students in organizing their study abroad. To actively engage students and teachers in exchanging ideas across borders is a vital instrument in creating a unified Europe of tomorrow.

My own Academic Student Exchange
Direct Exchange: Montana Sate University – August 2011 – May 2012
Montana State University has been the first choice for me from the very start of my preparations to stay abroad. As a Geological Sciences student, Montana in the northwestern United States is perfect – not just for a great student life to enjoy, but also for hiking, climbing, and pursuing winter sports.
I have already had the chance to explore Montana in the summer of 2010, when I visited the north of the state to participate in field work for an excavation with the ‘Museum of the Rockies‘. After the selection process, I got a place at MSU and I could hardly believe my luck and was ready to start my new life in Bozeman. Thanks to my first stay there, I already had an existing circle of friends in the city and could live with them off campus. Dormitory housing in the US is really quite expensive and I didn’t have an interest in staying on a floor with only exchange students. Daily costs and living expenses are cheaper compared to other states, which is mostly because there is no sales tax in Montana. That means Bozeman was more affordable for poor students like me. MSU really offers its students a lot of opportunities to get involved on campus and they have many interesting workshops and recreational opportunities
where all students can participate. In addition to all of this, tuition is free to German students that come to MSU with a direct exchange, so I highly recommend to use this chance to study in a new and exciting country.
I would immediately go back to Montana State and recommend it to anyone who doesn’t shy away from a smaller town – because as a city girl, I had might doubts at first, but I was so so wrong!

My own Academic Staff Exchange
I received several scholarships awarded by the European Commission and Freie Universität Berlin as a supporting measure for the internationalization, that offers administrative staff the opportunity to train at a partner university or European/International company.
